Restoration Sermon | When Doubt Creeps In | Out Loud

May 17, 2026    Brian Remsch

We've all been there—doing everything right, playing by the rules, staying faithful—only to watch others who seem to care nothing about God prosper while we struggle. This message dives deep into Psalm 73, where Asaph, a worship leader who dedicated his entire life to God, nearly throws it all away because he can't reconcile what he believes about God's goodness with what he's experiencing in real life. His honest cry—'Have I kept my heart pure for nothing?'—resonates with anyone who's ever felt like their faithfulness hasn't paid off. But here's the transformative truth: when Asaph enters the sanctuary to worship with others, something shifts. Not his circumstances, but his perspective. He encounters the living God, and it's like putting on a new pair of glasses. Suddenly, he sees that the real victory isn't about who has more or who's winning by worldly standards—it's about having God himself. The message reminds us that we don't worship a set of statements about God; we worship a living, active God who meets us in our doubts, our spirals, and our honest questions. The cross itself looked like evil's greatest triumph until three days changed everything. When we bring our struggles into community and encounter God's presence, we discover that what we truly need isn't answers to all our questions—it's the assurance that God is with us, holding us, even when life doesn't make sense.
