Our Story

A Rich Legacy...

Frederick First Church of the Nazarene began in 1935 with spirited tent revival services that ignited a deep passion for God within the community. Officially organized in 1937 under Rev. Milton H. Taylor, the church quickly grew and became a spiritual home for many. By 1955, under Rev. William D. Mowen’s leadership, the congregation moved to a new location on 7th Street, marking a significant chapter in their journey.

Continuing to expand and thrive, the church moved again in 1995 to Opossumtown Pike under Rev. Richard Diffenderfer’s guidance. For decades, Frederick First Church of the Nazarene was a beacon of hope and faith in the community. However, despite its rich history and impact, the congregation faced challenges and eventually closed, being listed as inactive in October 2022. The legacy of faith and community spirit established in those early tent revivals continues to inspire.

A New Vision...

In October 2023,  several dedicated families embarked on a journey to birth Restoration Church. With fervent prayers and shared vision, they laid the foundation for a vibrant faith community. Their commitment bore fruit as Sunday morning worship services commenced in March 2024, marking a significant milestone. Amidst joyous celebrations and heartfelt worship, Restoration Church has emerged as a beacon of hope, embodying God's restorative grace. As the Restoration Church community grows, they continue on a journey of spiritual growth, community outreach, and transformational impact, united by their passion for God and a shared mission to rebuild, renew, and restore lives in Frederick and beyond.

Where we are headed...

As we journey forward, Restoration Church envisions becoming a dynamic hub of spiritual renewal and community transformation. We aspire to deepen our impact through vibrant worship, authentic discipleship, and compassionate outreach.

Our vision is to cultivate a diverse, inclusive family where all are empowered to discover their God-given purpose and join in the mission of restoration, bringing hope and healing to our world.
