Restoration Sermon | Called but Insecure | Everyday Saints

Nov 2, 2025    Brian Remsch

This powerful message invites us into the story of Moses and the burning bush, reminding us that God has a remarkable pattern of calling ordinary people to do extraordinary things. We discover that Moses wasn't some superhero waiting in the wings—he was an 80-year-old fugitive tending sheep in the wilderness when God showed up in that miraculous burning bush. What makes this story so relatable is Moses' response: he gave God five different excuses why he was the wrong person for the job. From 'Who am I?' to 'Who are you?' to fears of rejection, perceived inadequacies, and finally just 'Please send anyone else'—Moses voiced every insecurity we've ever felt when God calls us to step out in faith. The beautiful truth we encounter here is that God doesn't wait until we feel ready, qualified, or adequate. He meets us in our ordinary, everyday moments and invites us into His extraordinary purposes. God's response to every excuse is simply His presence: 'I will be with you.' This pattern repeats throughout Scripture with Gideon, David, Jeremiah, and the disciples—God delights in using imperfect, insecure, everyday people to accomplish His kingdom work. The challenge for us is to name our excuses, invite God's presence into them, and then courageously step out in faith, trusting that if we have breath in our lungs, God has a calling for our lives.
